Joyce Forsythe

It was in July of 2005, at the age of 68, when Joyce Forsythe found a large mass growing in her abdomen. PET and CT scans revealed that her spleen had grown to the size of a football.  Shortly thereafter she had the spleen surgically removed, and it discovered that it weighed 5 pounds, and a biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of stage IV mantle cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

This particular type of lymphoma has a very poor prognosis and conventional therapies are not curative. Remission is the goal with treatment but this is generally short-lived, usually only lasting about 3 years. Her oncologist at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute recommended a cocktail of four different chemotherapy drugs hoping that they would put her cancer into remission for a couple of years, but she was told that the chemotherapy would not be able to cure her for the long term.

Joyce writes that she had first learned about Dr. Max Gerson’s protocol for curing cancer many years earlier when she lived near his cancer clinic in New York City back in the 1940’s- 50’s. She had also been a long-time subscriber to the Gerson Clinic Newsletter, and had read Dr Gerson’s book, ‘A Cancer Therapy: Results of Fifty Cases and the Cure of Advanced Cancer by Diet Therapy.  She says that she told herself long ago that if she was ever diagnosed with cancer that she would follow the Gerson protocol.  Knowing what she needed to do, she says that she turned down the chemotherapy protocol offered by her doctor and told her oncologist that she would be following a holistic cancer therapy instead. Her doctor reminded her that her cancer was stage IV, and that although nutrition wouldn’t hurt, it probably wouldn’t help her either.

Since Joyce and her husband were retired, they both had the time to devote to making the 13 servings of fresh organic juices and 5 coffee enemas that are required in this protocol.  It takes about 18 months to 2 years to fully heal from cancer using the Gerson protocol, but Joyce reports that she had not been on the therapy for very long when the lab results began showing that healing was taking place. Joyce says that her oncologist took one look at the lab results and exclaimed, “These are absolutely fantastic!” She  soon received a letter from her doctor which stated  “Keep doing what you are doing. The chemo would not have cured your cancer anyway.”

Although the lymphoma specialist at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston was in charge of her case, all of the CT scans, blood tests and cancer marker tests were done at her local cancer center where she met regularly over the next couple of years with an oncologist for interpretation of the results. After 5 years, the oncologist told her that there was no need for her to keep coming in for more appointments, however she said she didn’t want to lose touch with Joyce either.  She confirmed that if Joyce had followed the recommended chemotherapy protocol that she probably would not be alive today, and says that she thinks of Joyce often when she is prescribing those same chemotherapy protocols to her other patients. Her oncologist also asked if Joyce would be willing to send in future copies of her annual labs so that she could continue to monitor her progress.  “Seriously,” she said, “we doctors need to know about your success.”
