Sarah Cooper

On December 5, 2000, a tumor mass of 3.2 cm was found on Sarah Cooper pancreas during an unrelated CAT scan of her lungs. Sarah Ann reports that she had always thought that she was in relatively good health, but it was noted by her doctor that she had lost 25 pounds since her last visit and she was also suffering from some troubling bowel issues.

After meeting with two surgeons at Kaiser Permanente, she came to realize that she was facing a life threatening disease. Doctors immediately wanted to schedule a Whipple surgery, and if she survived that procedure , it would be followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments.  The best prognosis that any pancreatic cancer patient can hope for is to extend their life by an additional 15 to 18 months with these therapies, and Sarah was told she would only have about 3 – 6 months left if she refused to have them.

Sarah Ann had always been a very independent person who followed her intuition, and in this case it was telling her that the surgery and chemotherapy that her doctor’s were recommending were not the right therapies for her.   She says that she realized that her diet and lifestyle had created this cancerous condition and therefore she needed to heal it in a holistic manner.

Adopting Nutritional Therapy

In February of 2001 she was still refusing to have the surgery and the chemo but her general practitioner urged her to at least have a biopsy. She decided to do this and the pathology report from Kaiser and Mayo Clinic both confirmed that the mass was a poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma that was located at the head of the pancreas.
Sarah Ann continued to search for another option, and while explaining her situation to a doctor in California, he directed her to a trial that was being funded by the National Cancer Institute to test an innovative diet/supplement/detoxification protocol for pancreatic cancer that was based on the work of Dr Nicholas Gonzalez and Dr Linda Issacs. The protocol consisted of a specialized diet based upon individual metabolic typing, along with taking large doses of supplements and pancreatic enzymes, and incorporating various methods of detoxification which included coffee enemas, liver flushes, and juice fasting. (You can find more detailed information about the protocol offered by Dr Gonzalez using the link at the bottom of the page).
She decided to submit all the necessary blood tests, CAT scans and medical documentation that was required for consideration and was subsequently admitted into the trial. The trial was being held at Columbia University so she flew to New York to meet with Dr Isaacs to discuss the treatment protocol. She then had a meeting with a nurse who asked her about the Whipple surgical procedure. When Sarah said that she had refused it, the nurse informed her that she was no longer eligible for the study because it could only include patients who were medically unable to have the surgery.
Sarah Ann was extremely disappointed but she says that Dr. Isaacs telephoned her later that day and asked to meet with her a second time. Sarah went back to the clinic and Dr Isaacs informed her that she would still be able assist her with the protocol as it would be done outside of the clinical study if Sarah could cover the expenses related to the program. The costs would cover the necessary food, the 125-180 supplements and enzymes and the detoxification therapies that she would need to follow. Sarah says that she immediately jumped at the opportunity and they spent the next few hours discussing the protocol.
Sarah Ann began the protocol in March of 2001 and says that she has never looked back. She says that if she had chosen another route, she would not have lived to see her only granddaughter and namesake Sarah, who is now 12 years old.
