Tom Arguello

Tom Arguello was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, which he says is a great city to live in but it consistently ranks as one of the top 10 unhealthiest cities in the U.S.   Tom says that his lifestyle was consistent with this indulgent atmosphere and that his diet consisted of lots of high-fat foods, fast foods, and he drank lots of soda. Tom was 5’7″ and weighed 220 lbs.

It was just two weeks before his 37th birthday when he made an appointment to see a urologist about an “abnormality” in one of his testicles. Tom first noticed some changes about 9 months earlier but he admits that he ignored them.  As the weeks and months passed he noticed that the testicle in question had increased in size and texture so he spent many hours on the internet trying to self-diagnose what might be going on and and says he kept coming across the same troubling phrase, “testicular cancer.”

Following the surgery, Tom went back to the doctor to go over the pathology report and was diagnosed with stage IB Seminoma Testicular Cancer.  Although it was caught relatively early, the cancer had spread to the epididymis and there was also “Vascular Invasion” as well, meaning there was a greater likelihood that the cancer had already spread to other parts of his body. As he reviewed the survival rates and treatment options, Tom says that he felt uncomfortable with the doctor’s ‘One size fits all’ approach and says that he began feeling more like a statistic than a person.

The following week Tom met with an Oncologist to review his prognosis at which time he was urged to undergo a few rounds of chemotherapy “just so he could sleep good at night.” During this same conversation he was also encouraged to “go eat at McDonald’s after receiving the chemotherapy if that type of food sounded good to him.”  Tom says this comment raised a huge red flag for him.

After speaking with his wife Tom decided to go ahead with the chemotherapy.  He met with a nurse to go over the procedures at which time she proceeded to tell him about possible complications that might occur with treatments.  These included hair loss, loss of appetite, neuropathy (loss of feeling in his fingertips or feet), and that he may end up in the emergency room because the chemotherapy would lower his white blood cell count.

Tom says, “this was a classic case of the side effects being much worse than the problem,” so he decided against having the chemotherapy treatments.  He went home and began to research everything he could find relating to alternative cancer treatments.  He says that he found a treasure trove of information that included testimonials from people who were being healed from late-stage cancers using nutrition, herbs, and supplements.
